Create A Stunning Shower Room

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

A shower room is often used as a second bathroom or is sometimes squeezed into an awkward shaped room. Shower rooms can be difficult to get right as there is no bath to act as a focal point. If you are making the shower the main feature in the room make it as stylish and luxurious as you can by using a large, spacious shower enclosure and a large drench style shower head. If you want to open up the space more you could opt for a wet room, this way you won’t feel confined when you are showering and it will also make the room look bigger.

Installing a wet room is much more complex and expensive than installing a standard shower, but once it is installed it will be simple to keep clean and maintain. With a full wet room the water drains directly through the floor, this requires the entire room to be tanked to stop any water leaking through the walls or floorboards. The wet room floor needs to be raised and sloped in the direction of where the water drains. Using a frameless glass panel in a wetroom will prevent towels and anything else getting covered in water, but will still create that open plan look.
